Using computers as tools for making or modifying digital media such as photographs, music, and video is second nature to many students. Software for manipulating these media is readily available, but sometimes lacks capabilities that the user wants. Further, they are not extendible by the user to provide these capabilities. We would like to study the programming techniques that underlie computer manipulation of digital media and show that students can use programming as a toold to extend what they can do with digital media.
